February 21 @ 9:38 am
Join the St. Croix-Red Cedar CWMA for a FREE hands-on buckthorn management and control training to learn how to tackle your buckthorn infestation from start to finish. The event will include training on how to plan out your approach and where to start on a large infestation, as well as hands-on practice with different control methods, including herbicide applications.
The training will take place on a private landowner’s property and offer firsthand accounts of getting assistance for invasive species management and an example of an ongoing control project. To provide hands-on experience, we will be contributing to the ongoing control work happening on the property.
This training is intended for private landowners interested in managing invasive species like buckthorn on their own property, land managers interested in learning more about the impacts of and control options for forest invasives, and anyone else interested in tackling buckthorn infestions.
The training will primarily be held outdoors so please come prepared for the weather and ready to walk and do some work in the woods. Long pants, long sleeve and sturdy closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Gloves and eye protection will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own. Additionally, please feel free to bring any personal control equipment (ie. sprayers, loppers, etc.) that you have questions about or would like to get more practice using.
Refreshments will be provided, but please bring a water bottle.
This event is hosted by the St. Croix-Red Cedar CWMA with special support from the Cedar Lake Buckthorn Project and the St. Croix River Association.
