Presented by Dave Freeman, National Geographic Adventurer of the Year (2014) and co-author of A Year in the Wilderness: Bearing Witness in the Boundary Waters.
Why are rivers important and what can they teach us? How can we advocate for and protect our waterways for future generations? What are the key issues affecting our rivers?
The 50th Anniversary Signature Speaker Series, the St. Croix River Association (SCRA) and Namekagon River Partnership invite you to attend a special event at the Park Center in Hayward, WI. Avid outdoorsman and explorer Dave Freeman will share experiences about spending a year in the wilderness in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and the many rivers he has traveled with his wife, Amy. All waterways have a story to tell, and in this presentation Dave will share personal stories, images and videos to introduce you to rivers around the globe.
The event is one of many in 2018 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, which became a national park with the passage of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act in 1968. Thanks to federal protections, the Riverway — which includes the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers — still offers clean water, breathtaking beauty, and abundant recreation.
