Inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders

The 3rd annual St. Croix Youth Summit will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the UW – River Falls University Center. This dynamic conference is for middle, high school and college age students who want to learn about the environmental issues and challenges facing the St. Croix River watershed and take action to make a difference.

The goals of the St. Croix Summit are to:

  • Gather – Gather together as a collective, youthful voice for science and for the future of the St. Croix River watershed

  • Learn – Learn from professional conservation leaders about the environmental threats to the St. Croix River watershed

  • Discuss – Discuss environmental cause and effect, implications, and solutions with your peers

  • Do – Take what you learn from the St. Croix Summit and put it into action in your school and community

When: 9am – 5pm

Costs: Free for students* | $25 per adult (teacher / chaperone)

Summit Schedule:

8:30 - 9:00 AM: Registration - Level 2 (Top of the stairs)

9:00 AM: Welcome & Keynote: The Half-Earth Project: Why Half, Which Half, and How?(Ballroom A)

Dennis Liu - Half Earth Project

Led by renowned Biodiversity Scientist E.O. Wilson a consensus has emerged that to preserve that natural world that humans depend on requires saving half of the land and seas for the rest of nature. Dennis will talk about how this can be accomplished and how we all can contribute.

10:30 AM: Lunch Break & Exhibit Hall opens (Falcons Nest)

11:00 AM - 1:45 PM: Watershed and Wildlife Workshops (Separate breakouts for middle and high school students)

11:30 AM - 1:30 PM: Teacher Institute (Trimbelle River Room)

Half-Earth Project: Mapping to Save Biodiversity: A Team-based Design Challenge with Dennis Liu

Farm to Faucet: Where Watershed Ed and Agriculture Ed Collide with the St. Croix River Association and River Falls High School
